Ernest Albert Coxhead (1863-1933) was born in England and received his architectural training at the Royal Academy and Architectural Association in London. In 1890, Coxhead and his brother Almeric began an architecture practice in San Francisco. Ernest Coxhead designed numerous churches and residences in the Bay Area, and was involved in the emergence of the Arts and Crafts style in California.
